Torsion of right middle lobe after a right upper lobectomy
Lobar torsion after lung resection is a quite rare complication. A 50-year-old woman presented typical features on chest radiographs and CT(computed tomography) scan of lobar torsion after a right upper lobectomy. After emergency lobectomy of right middle lobe, the patient recovered well and discharged 10 days after the second operation.
متن کاملA case report: right upper lobectomy with middle lobe preservation after right lower lobectomy
Few reports have described right upper and lower lobectomy with preservation of the middle lobe because of the risk of middle lobe torsion or emphysematous change. Herein we describe a successful result following lobectomy with preservation of the middle lobe for metachronous pulmonary metastasis originating from colon cancer in the right upper lobe after initial right lower lobectomy. A 69-yea...
متن کاملTechnique to reduce air leaks after pulmonary lobectomy.
OBJECTIVE Patients undergoing pulmonary resections often present postoperative air leaks of varying magnitude and duration; this complication is more frequent with incomplete or absent interlobar fissures. Small leaks close spontaneously within 5-7 days; larger leaks may persist longer and could be associated with increased morbidity and prolonged hospitalization. We evaluated the role of diffe...
متن کاملPostoperative air leak grading is useful to predict prolonged air leak after pulmonary lobectomy
BACKGROUND Results of studies to predict prolonged air leak (PAL; air leak longer than 5 days) after pulmonary lobectomy have been inconsistent and are of limited use. We developed a new scale representing the amount of early postoperative air leak and determined its correlation with air leak duration and its potential as a predictor of PAL. METHODS We grade postoperative air leak using a 5-g...
متن کاملPulmonary torsion following right upper lobectomy.
We report on a case of postoperative lobar torsion in a 51-year-old woman following right upper lobectomy. A right middle lobar torsion was diagnosed by postoperative observation with chest X-ray and bronchofiberscopy. An emergency rethoracotomy was performed and a middle lobectomy was carried out. The postoperative course was uneventful and the patient was discharged on the 17th day after reth...
